The Kamezuka burial mound is located in Oita city, near Ozai station.
This the largest burial mound in Oita prefecture with a length of 116m, and its construction has been estimated to have taken place in the early 5th century.
The mound is a three levels construction with its front portion pointing to the south, and the higher level up to 7 meters high. On the top of it lays the 3.2 meters box-type coffin.
Because of ancient grave robbing the archeologists only found debris of iron sword, jewels, jasper tubes, and some glass. You can take a look at the collection in the small museum near the tumulus.
The tumulus area has been designated as a national historic site in 1996, March 28th.
To access the site you can either walk 40 minute from Ozai Station, or take a taxi (10mn ride).
Please come and take a look!
