Exhibits in the permanent exhibition section include government-designated important cultural assets produced by artists related to Oita: Chikuden Tanomura's Bungo Nanga (Bungo region calligraphic painting) works and Tatsuo Takayama's Japanese paintings, among other works of the museum's collection of some 1,800 works of modern painting and contemporary art. All these works are arranged by genre. In the themed exhibition section, several different themed exhibitions are held every year.
